The Common Sail

magazine design / april 2015

This was a University project to design and produce an editorial magazine. I moved to Norfolk in 2013 and instantly fell in love with its calming landscape. So when we were briefed with this project, I instantly wanted to incorporate Norfolk into it.  All of the photography in the magazine is my own. The Common Sail is a quirky travel magazine, looking at windmills and the landscapes in which they sit. The layout and typography are all about reflecting the angles and movements of sails. The magazine gives the reader a guide to windmills in that area, in this case Norfolk, as well as case studies on what it’s like living in a windmill and residential conversions.
